Late 16th century French man’s ensemble after the portrait of Prince Hercule-François, Duc d’Alençon (1572, Washington, National Gallery of Art) | cotton shirt; linen ruffle collar edged with cotton bobbin lace; cotton bobbin lace cuffs; padded doublet in pleated silk duchesse satin with thread-wrapped buttons; padded paned trunk hoses in silk duchesse satin; wool gabardine cape lined with lynx fur; wool gabardine cap with ostrich feathers; gold plated enamelled ouches and pendant set with Czech crystal stones, freshwater baroque pearls.
